Story

The municipality of Salgar and surrounding regions have only in recent years appeared on Colombia’s coffee scene, producing some of the most floral and sweet coffees the country has ever seen. This has been the work of two factors. First, is the hard work put in Quality Control, promoting a new washed processing method that enhances the flavors, and then selecting only the best lots produced. Second, is a naturally occurring genetic mutation found in the area’s coffee trees, creating a new sweet and floral strain, named Caturra Chiroso. This combination has seen the rise of this coffee in local competitions and auctions.

This area has been on our radar for a couple of years as its producers have repeatedly turned up on our cupping tables with a gentle floral sweetness. Determined to uncover the secret, we went to the source. This coffee actually is the result of many years of scouting and surveying.
